Muslim woman granted hijab accommodation to attend Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -

A Muslim woman who persuaded Norwich University to change its uniform policy to accommodate her religious beliefs says she will attend the Northfield school.

Sana Hamze spoke to CNN Monday afternoon about her quest to attend a military college. Norwich last week granted a request by a prospective student to wear a hijab over her hair and neck in keeping with Muslim traditions. Norwich would not release the prospective student's name, citing privacy laws, but Hamze shared her story with CNN.

"Me trying to attend the Citadel and Norwich University wearing my hijab is simply because I want to be in the U.S. military. I want to serve this country," Hamze said.

Hamze also applied to The Citadel, a South Carolina military school, but they refused to modify their uniform policy.
