Paris – French Newspaper Le Parisien[1] recently reported that Lola, a Muslim mother who converted to Islam six years ago, was threatened by another mother with a knife outside of Joliot-Curie, a public primary school located in Vitry-sur-Seine, a south eastern suburb of Paris.
The woman allegedly assaulted Lola while she was picking up her son and daughter from the school.
Lola, who was wearing the hijab at the time of the incident, has received a 10-day leave from work and her children have been given ten weeks off from school to recover psychologically from the assault. However, the alleged victim has not been granted a restraining order.
The accused, who was placed under arrest, was released from prison the following day and instructed to appear in front of the Criminal Court of Creteil on September 21. According to the prosecutor's office in Creteil, the assault was not motivated by racism or discrimination.
Karim Achoui, the founder of the Muslim Legal Defence League, will defend Lola's case. He has stated that he will file a complaint on four legal grounds: threats involving a knife, death threats against the victim, insulting the police and cannabis use.
