The Hijab Barbie Instagram is super awesome

With the Muslim fashion scene growing more influential on social media and the industry expecting to rake in about $327 billion from the Islamic fashion market by 2020[1], it's likely to see stylish Islamic fashion become the mainstream, and Hijarbie[2] dolls become part of the norm.

The doll size "Hijarbie" replica wears an array of colourful outfits, many of which are inspired by their fashion designer creator, a 24-year-old Nigerian student.

The idea dawned on Adam when she was studying for her Master's degree in England.

Barbie's look has changed dramatically since her 1959 creation and just last week she was adapted to come in a variety of different skin tones and three new realistic body types: tall, petite and curvy.

The Instagram account[3], which models Hijarbie, modeling in the latest trendy looks while donned in elegant hijabs, has garnered thousands of followers in a matter of few short weeks.

Plus, she wanted to see the world's most popular doll dressed like she would dress - chic and covered.

"When I got back to Nigeria, I went to the mall, purchased a doll, dressed it up, documented it and here we are".

As pointed out by Mic[4], the Muslim style world is "bustling with young women eager to show off their own outfits and inspiration".

Hijarbie also sets a positive example for the girls who wear hijabs, boosting their confidence and belonging. Adam said the following. She hopes that her endeavour will encourage girls to appreciate the benefits of a modest lifestyle and upbringing.

The account started as a creative outlet for Adam, who's in the process of launching a modest lifestyle brand, Hanie[5]. After years of condemning the impossibly figured Barbie, a new range of dolls without an unrealistic slim waist sounded like a pretty cool idea to everyone.
