Every week it seems there's a new Instagram account for everyone to obsess over, and now it's Hijab Barbie. Created by Haneefah Adam, a 24-year-old from Nigeria, the account showcases Barbie in hijabs and outfits Haneefah crafts herself. The account has amassed a strong following since its conception due to the positive messages Hijarbie sends.
"It's important to create a sense of value in the Muslim child, especially the girl child," Adam told Mic[1]. "They become more confident, more driven, they believe more in themselves, which leads to an appreciation of herself and her modest lifestyle and upbringing." And with the recent introduction of diverse Barbies[2], Hijab Barbie is just the latest doll to help spread messages of physical and cultural acceptance to kids everywhere.
We'd also like to think Hipster Barbie[3] and Hijab Barbie would have been good friends and discussed topics like changing the social media landscape for the better.
