Mother and twin daughters accused of racially abusing Muslim woman and pulling hijab off

May Saber was allegedly attacked by the trio of women as she walked to pick up her children from school.

The group also allegedly shouted Islamophobic abuse at the 25-year-old mum during the incident on Derby Road in Croydon, south London, on June 4 last year.

The Metropolitan Police said a member of the public had stepped in to stop the attack near to the private Islamic primary school Al-Khair.

MS-sufferer Emma Marie Camilleri, 35, and her twin daughters Sarah and Ashleigh Gaskin, 18, were due to be tried at Croydon Magistrates' Court today.

But the trial descended into a farce after the trio's lawyer didn't show up.

After the lawyer's no-show the chair adjourned the case until June.

The trial was ready to go ahead, but magistrates decided to adjourn the case so a lawyer could be instructed to cross-examine any witnesses.

Ms Camilleri was supported by a walking stick while her daughters were spotted with a baby outside of court.

Chair of the bench Mimi Watts said: "It is not your fault that your representative is not here.

"We do not consider it in the public interest to carry on today."

The trio, all of Lower Addiscombe Road, Addiscombe, deny racially aggravated common assault.
